Rhodes Airport Arrival: Getting to Your Hotel

Rhodes Airport (Diagoras) arrival guide: transfers, taxis, buses and car hire to your exact accommodation address, with local tips for late flights.

Rhodes Airport (Diagoras), code RHO, is the island's primary international and domestic gateway. Located on the north-west coast, it's a functional, modern airport that gets very busy during the main holiday season from late spring to early autumn.

Your first, and most important, decision upon landing is how to get to your accommodation. Your arrival time, amount of luggage, and final destination—whether it's nearby Rhodes Town or a southern resort like Lindos—will determine the best transport choice for you.

To book a private pickup, see Rhodes Airport Transfers; for terminal facilities and departures, see the Rhodes Airport Diagoras guide.

Choosing Your Onward Transport

Once you've collected your bags, you’ll find the airport bus stop and the official taxi queue just outside the arrivals hall. Pre-booked transfer drivers typically wait inside with a name sign. The best option isn't always the cheapest; a little planning can save you significant time and hassle, especially if you have a late flight or are travelling with family.

Consider your circumstances when choosing how to leave the airport:

  • Public Bus: The most economical option if you're travelling light to Rhodes Town, Ixia or Ialyssos during the day. Luggage space is limited, and the bus does not stop directly at most hotels. Reaching southern resorts usually requires changing buses in Rhodes Town.
  • Airport Taxi: A straightforward choice for a direct journey. Simply join the official queue outside arrivals. Queues can be long when several flights land at once, and standard saloon cars may have limited space for luggage.
  • Pre-booked Private Transfer: The most predictable and often most comfortable option. By booking ahead, you secure a fixed price and a vehicle suited to your group and luggage. It is particularly useful for late arrivals, families, and those heading to distant southern resorts, as you bypass the taxi queue.
  • Rental Car: Collecting a car at the airport gives you immediate freedom to explore. However, consider if you feel comfortable driving after your flight. For late arrivals or if you plan to relax at your hotel for a few days, a transfer first with a later car rental delivery might be better.
  • Shared Transfer: Often included in package holidays, these are budget-friendly but can involve waiting for other passengers and multiple hotel drop-offs, significantly extending the journey time.

Key Destinations & What to Expect

The journey from the airport to the northern resorts is relatively short. For these destinations, a taxi or bus is often sufficient.

For resorts on the south-east coast, the journey is much longer. A direct drive to Lindos takes about an hour, while Pefkos, Kiotari, and Gennadi are even further. For these distances, a pre-booked transfer is often worth the convenience, offering a fixed price and avoiding a long, potentially expensive taxi ride after a flight. Indicative published taxi fares are around €74 to Lindos, but you should always confirm the current tariff.

If you have a late flight or an early departure, staying in Kremasti is a practical choice. It's just a few kilometres from the airport, offering convenience without the bustle of a major resort.

Plan the arrival around your final address

Your arrival destination is the exact accommodation address, not just the resort name. An Old Town stay, a beachfront hotel and a hillside villa can need different final access arrangements. Compare Rhodes Town and Lindos for local context before deciding how to complete the journey.

Use bus timetables to check current services and the taxi calculator for estimates. For a pre-arranged journey, confirm the pickup instructions and destination through airport transfers. This is arrival guidance, not a guarantee of a particular fare or service.

Frequently asked questions

Do Uber or Bolt operate in Rhodes?

Don't rely on them for your arrival. Uber announced a service on Rhodes in 2023, but that is not a dependable basis for on-demand transport from the airport. Use the official taxi queue or a pre-booked transfer; some local taxi companies accept bookings by phone or WhatsApp, but this is not an instant ride-hailing service. See Is there Uber in Rhodes?.

Is it better to collect a rental car at the airport?

Collect your car on arrival if you want to start exploring right away. However, if you are arriving late or your first few days will be spent at your hotel or on a nearby beach, it can be more practical and economical to take a transfer and arrange for a rental car to be delivered later in your stay.

I'm staying in the Old Town. Can a taxi take me right to my hotel?

Not always. Vehicle access within the medieval walls of the Old Town is highly restricted. Even a private transfer may have to drop you a short walk from your hotel's door. Ask your accommodation for the best drop-off point and advice on managing the final walk with your luggage.
