Chapter 1 of 7
West-coast castles and Fourni: my choice for a scenery day
The west-coast drive towards Monolithos is a good choice when you want a different feel from the busy east-coast resorts. Sea views, smaller settlements and exposed landscapes are part of the outing, not just scenery between attractions.
I would choose the Kritinia area for castle viewpoints or Monolithos with Fourni as the main focus rather than turn every stop into a race. Fourni, below the Monolithos area, gives you a more raw, natural beach setting than a resort-centred day. Bring what you need and do not build the visit around assumed services.
Kritinia village is worth time as well as the nearby castle views: traditional houses, quiet lanes and a taverna stop make it more than a photograph from a viewpoint. Leave room in the day for that slower part.
Sunset scenery is a reason to enjoy the area, not to stop in a live lane or drive back in a hurry. Choose a safe permitted stopping place and plan the return before the light changes.
Chapter 2 of 7
Siana and Embonas: choose a mountain-village outing
Siana and Embonas are my picks when the holiday has been mostly coastline and you want an inland day. The drive brings bends, mountain scenery and a different pace; it is worth enjoying the journey rather than judging it only by the arrival time.
Embonas, on the slopes of Mount Attavyros, is the place for wineries, local products and traditional tavernas. I would give it a proper lunch or wandering stop instead of a quick drive-through. If wine tasting is part of the plan, keep the driver alcohol-free.
Siana brings honey, souma, village streets and nearby views. Choose a few things that interest you rather than assume every shop or tasting is open when you pass. The point of the stop is the village, not a promise of a particular service.
I would keep this as a village-focused day with space for a viewpoint or a longer meal. Combining it with every southern beach is how a relaxed outing becomes mostly driving.
Chapter 3 of 7
Lindos towards Prasonisi: an open south-coast day
The road south from Lindos through Kiotari, Gennadi and towards Lachania and Prasonisi makes a useful coastal outing. The scenery becomes more open, with room to choose a beach stop and a village visit rather than stay entirely in the resort belt.
For Lachania, leave the car appropriately and walk among the whitewashed houses, colourful doors and quiet streets. A café or taverna stop fits the village better than using it as a quick photo on the way south.
Prasonisi is the southern focus when the sea and windsurfing landscape interest you. Do not place it as an incidental stop on an already full north-island day. Build the route around your starting point and leave time for the return.
I would sort fuel before a longer southern outing and carry water and day supplies. These are road-based suggestions, not a claim that every beach approach is suitable for any rental car.
Chapter 4 of 7
A shorter outing from Rhodes Town: Kallithea and the east coast
You do not need a full-island drive to make a rental day useful. From Rhodes Town, a Kallithea-focused coastal outing can suit a shorter day, with the option to continue along the east coast if time and your plans allow.
I would choose one principal stop and leave the rest flexible rather than promise an exact half-day schedule. How long you spend swimming, walking or having lunch matters as much as the drive itself.
If you continue towards other east-coast beaches, keep the same rule: a few stops you actually enjoy are better than a long list visited briefly. There is no need to turn a relaxed coastal day into a second comprehensive beach guide.
Chapter 5 of 7
Quiet places: be selective about the word hidden
The useful “hidden Rhodes” idea is not secrecy. It is choosing places beyond your immediate resort and allowing enough time to enjoy them. Fourni, Siana, Kritinia and Lachania give that quieter rhythm without needing a made-up secret location.
Unnamed west-coast viewpoints may catch your eye, but there is no promise of a marked parking area. Only stop where it is safe and permitted; never let spontaneity become an unsafe pull-over.
Chapter 6 of 7
Build a route around the day you want
I would pick one theme: west-coast scenery, mountain villages, southern coastline or a shorter east-coast outing. Then choose a main stop, a secondary stop and space for lunch. Leave the remaining time for somewhere you want to stay longer.
For villages, bring some cash for small cafés or local shops. For remote beach outings, take water, snacks and what you need for the day. Keep the driver free from alcohol even when local wine or souma is part of what the village is known for.
Start with a realistic return plan and do not stop in the road for a photograph. Practical road, parking and fuel advice is in the driving guide, so the route plan does not need to repeat a full road manual.
Chapter 7 of 7
Arrange a car for the route, not the whole holiday by default
Compare the real cars in the Rhodes Booking Marketplace for the days you want to explore. A comfortable compact can be a practical starting point for ordinary road outings; choose the transmission and space that fit you and your passengers.
Read the displayed vehicle details, prices and rental conditions, then complete the chosen listing’s booking/contact form with the requested travel and contact information. Submit the request. The rental company contacts you to confirm availability and confirms the booking.
I would arrange the car before fixing a day around it, then leave the itinerary flexible enough to enjoy Rhodes. The rental should give you more time at the places you choose—not pressure to drive everywhere. To arrange the car for those days, use the car rental Rhodes guide.

Frequently asked questions
Where would you go in Rhodes by car?
Choose a focused outing: west-coast castles and Fourni, Siana and Embonas, the southern coast with Lachania and Prasonisi, or a shorter Kallithea coastal day.
Can I combine all the routes in one day?
I would not. Pick one part of the island and leave time for the stops, lunch and return. A long checklist can turn the day into mostly driving.
Which villages suit a driving day?
Embonas and Siana suit a mountain-village outing. Kritinia works with western scenery, while Lachania fits a southern route. Give each selected village time to walk and stop.
Is Fourni a useful stop by car?
It fits a Monolithos-area outing and offers a raw natural beach setting. Prepare for the day rather than assume resort-style services.
What is a shorter scenic outing from Rhodes Town?
A Kallithea-focused coastal day is a useful starting point. Choose a main stop and only extend farther down the east coast if time and your plans allow.
Should I follow unmarked roads to find hidden beaches?
No. Choose clearly identified places and suitable road approaches, follow the rental conditions and only stop safely and legally. An unnamed track is not automatically a visitor route.
What should I bring for a village or remote beach day?
Water and day supplies, with some cash for small village cafés or shops. Refuel before a longer rural outing and keep the driver alcohol-free if tastings interest your group.
How do I arrange a car for exploring?
Compare real marketplace vehicles and conditions, complete the preferred listing’s booking/contact form and submit the request. The company contacts you to confirm availability and confirms the booking.
