Rhodes Airport to Resorts: Private Transfers, Distances & Travel Times

Last updated

Landing at Rhodes Airport (RHO) is the easy part. The real question starts at the arrivals door: how do you get to your resort, and how long will it actually take? Rhodes looks compact on a map, but the airport sits on the northwest coast near Paradisi, and most popular resorts stretch down the east and south coasts — so the journey can be anything from 20 minutes to nearly an hour and a half.

I live here and I've met thousands of arrivals over the years. The travellers who have the smoothest first day are almost always the ones who arranged their airport journey before they landed. This page brings together the real distances, indicative travel times and practical arrival advice for every major resort area, so you can decide once — and then simply book your Rhodes airport transfer if an arranged pickup suits your trip.

What this page covers

A practical, commercial guide to getting from Rhodes International Airport (RHO) to every major resort area, with verified distances, indicative journey times, and a direct way to book a private airport transfer or hire a car.

  • Rhodes Town is about 14 km from the airport (20–25 minutes by road)
  • Lindos is about 50 km (roughly an hour to 75 minutes)
  • Gennadi, at about 65 km, is the longest common resort transfer (80–90 minutes)
  • Shared shuttle transfers to southern resorts can take 2–3 hours with multiple hotel stops

Airport to Resort Distances at a Glance

All times below are indicative for a direct taxi or pre-booked transfer in normal traffic, gathered from our own route guides for each destination. Summer traffic around Rhodes Town can add a few minutes, and shared shuttle buses take considerably longer because they stop at several hotels.

  • Rhodes Town — ~14 km, about 20–25 minutes
  • Rhodes Old Town — ~14 km, about 20–25 minutes, plus a short walk to hotels inside the walls
  • Kallithea — ~18–20 km, about 25–35 minutes
  • Faliraki — ~17 km, about 20–30 minutes
  • Kolymbia — ~30 km, about 35–45 minutes
  • Lindos — ~50 km, about 60–75 minutes
  • Pefkos — ~55 km, about 65–75 minutes
  • Lardos — ~55 km, about 70–80 minutes
  • Kiotari — ~60 km, about 75–85 minutes
  • Gennadi — ~65 km, about 80–90 minutes

Once you've found your resort above, the fastest next step is to check an instant price for your exact hotel — it takes a couple of minutes and there's no obligation.

Chapter 2 of 15

Rhodes Airport to Rhodes Town

Rhodes Town is the closest major destination, only about 14 km from the airport, and the journey usually takes 20–25 minutes. It's one of the easiest arrivals on the island: a taxi from the rank outside arrivals typically costs around €25–35 depending on the time and luggage, and the airport bus is the budget option at roughly €3.5–4, though it takes 45 minutes or more and drops you at the town bus station rather than your hotel.

If your hotel is in the newer part of town or along the beachfront, any option works. Where pre-booking earns its keep here is late arrivals and families with several suitcases — you skip the taxi queue entirely and go straight to a waiting car.

Chapter 3 of 15

Rhodes Airport to Rhodes Old Town

The Old Town is the one arrival that genuinely surprises people. Vehicles cannot freely reach most hotels inside the medieval walls, so even a taxi or private transfer will usually drop you at the nearest gate — D'Amboise or the Marine Gate, for example — and the last few minutes are on foot over cobbles with your luggage.

A pre-booked transfer helps more here than anywhere else, because a driver who knows the Old Town will choose the closest practical gate for your specific hotel and can coordinate with the property if it offers luggage assistance. Taxis do the same journey in 20–25 minutes for roughly €25–35, but may simply stop at the gate they know. The airport bus is the cheapest way in, but you'll walk from the town bus station with your bags.

If you're driving yourself, plan parking before you arrive: parking inside the walls is restricted and the public areas outside fill quickly in summer.

Staying inside the walls? Arrange your transfer in advance and add your hotel name — the driver plans the right gate before you land.

Chapter 4 of 15

Rhodes Airport to Kallithea

Kallithea sits just beyond Rhodes Town on the east coast, about 18–20 km from the airport, with a typical journey of 25–35 minutes. Because it's close, every option is relatively quick — a taxi runs around €30–45, and the bus at roughly €4–6 takes 45–70 minutes depending on stops.

Here the real difference between options is comfort rather than time: hotel positioning along the coast road and how much luggage you're carrying matter more than the drive itself. Shared shuttle transfers to Kallithea are usually among the shorter ones because of the proximity.

Chapter 5 of 15

Rhodes Airport to Faliraki

Faliraki is one of the quickest resort transfers on the island — about 17 km, usually 20–30 minutes by taxi or transfer. The bus is the cheap alternative at 35–55 minutes depending on waiting time, and summer evening traffic near Rhodes Town can add a few minutes to any road journey.

Because the distance is short, most transport choices work well; the deciding factors are the taxi queue at peak arrival times and how much luggage you have. A pre-booked car simply removes both variables.

Chapter 6 of 15

Rhodes Airport to Kolymbia

Kolymbia sits roughly halfway between Rhodes Town and Lindos, about 30 km from the airport. Expect 35–45 minutes by taxi or transfer, around €45–60 by taxi, or 60–90 minutes by bus at roughly €5–8 with a possible change.

At this mid-distance the comfort gap between options starts to become noticeable, especially after a flight. Kolymbia's hotels are spread along a green, low-rise strip, so a direct drop-off at your exact hotel is worth more than it sounds.

Chapter 7 of 15

Rhodes Airport to Lindos

Lindos is the most popular — and one of the longest — airport journeys, at about 50 km. Allow roughly an hour to 75 minutes by road. A taxi from the rank typically costs around €75–95, and the bus, while the cheapest option at roughly €10–14, means riding to Rhodes Town first, changing to the Lindos bus, and arriving outside the village — often 70–110 minutes in total, with waiting in between.

Two things catch travellers out here. First, Lindos village itself is pedestrianised: taxis and transfers drop off outside the centre, and some hotels arrange buggy pickup for luggage — worth asking about before you arrive. Second, shared shuttle transfers can stop at several resorts before Lindos, stretching the journey to two or even three hours.

For couples, families and anyone staying in a hillside hotel, a pre-booked private transfer is usually the least stressful way to arrive: a fixed price agreed in advance, a vehicle sized for your luggage, and a pickup arranged before you land instead of a queue to join outside.

Lindos is exactly the journey where pre-booking pays off — see the fixed price for your Lindos hotel before you decide.

Chapter 8 of 15

Rhodes Airport to Pefkos

Pefkos lies just south of Lindos, around 55 km from the airport, and the drive typically takes 65–75 minutes along the scenic east coast. A taxi is direct but relatively expensive at roughly €85–105; the bus is the budget choice at about €10–15 but usually involves changing in Rhodes Town and can take 90–140 minutes with waiting.

Beachfront hotels in Pefkos are easy for drop-off, while some hillside properties involve a short uphill walk from the road. Because Pefkos is near the end of the south-coast route, shared shuttle transfers often stop at multiple resorts first — occasionally two to three hours in total. After a flight, that difference is exactly why many families and late arrivals pre-book a direct car.

Travelling with kids or arriving late? Book a direct transfer to Pefkos and skip the multi-stop shuttle.

Chapter 9 of 15

Rhodes Airport to Lardos

Lardos is a similar journey to Pefkos — around 55 km and 70–80 minutes by road. Taxis run about €90–110, and the bus at roughly €10–15 involves a change in Rhodes Town and 100–150 minutes overall. Evening arrivals make the bus journey significantly longer, so time of day genuinely matters for this route.

Beachfront resorts are straightforward for drop-off; village accommodation may involve a short walk from the main road. As with the other southern resorts, shared transfers can extend the trip to two or three hours with multiple hotel stops.

For a journey this length, most travellers prefer to fix the price and vehicle in advance.

Chapter 10 of 15

Rhodes Airport to Kiotari

Kiotari is about 60 km from the airport — expect 75–85 minutes by taxi or private transfer. A taxi costs roughly €85–115, while the bus at about €10–15 means changing in Rhodes Town and up to 110–160 minutes in total, plus a possible walk from the stop to your resort.

Kiotari is dominated by large beachfront resorts, which are easy for vehicles to reach directly — one reason pre-booked transfers work so well here. Because it's near the end of the south-coast route, shared shuttles frequently take two to three hours. For all-inclusive resorts and late arrivals especially, a direct arranged car is noticeably more relaxing.

Chapter 11 of 15

Rhodes Airport to Gennadi

Gennadi, at roughly 65 km, is the longest common resort transfer on the island — about 80–90 minutes by road. A taxi runs around €90–120, and the bus at approximately €12–16 can take 120–170 minutes with a change in Rhodes Town.

The east-coast drive itself is simple and scenic, but after a flight it can feel longer than expected, and shared shuttles stopping at many resorts first can stretch it to two or three hours. Of all the destinations on this page, Gennadi is the one where arranging your transport before you travel makes the biggest difference to how your first day feels.

The longest transfer on the island is the one most worth arranging ahead — book your Gennadi transfer before you fly.

Why Book Your Airport Transfer in Advance?

None of this is about transfers being magically better than taxis — the airport taxi rank works fine for many people. It's about predictability. When you arrange the journey before arrival, you know the vehicle size, the luggage capacity, the pickup arrangement and the final price before you ever leave home.

On our own booking marketplace you can price a transfer from Rhodes Airport to your exact accommodation in a couple of minutes: you choose the destination, passengers and luggage, see the available vehicle options, and review the provider's terms and final price before confirming. No payment is required online to get the price.

The travellers who benefit most are families with child seats and suitcases, groups who need a larger vehicle, anyone landing late in the evening, and visitors heading to the southern resorts — Lindos, Pefkos, Lardos, Kiotari and Gennadi — where the journey is long enough that comfort and a fixed price genuinely matter.

With a pre-booked transfer you also get a meet-and-greet pickup: your driver waits for you in the arrivals hall after baggage reclaim, so you walk straight out to your vehicle instead of joining the taxi queue outside.

Transfer, Taxi or Bus: An Honest Comparison

You deserve the full picture, so here it is without a sales pitch.

A pre-booked transfer suits you if you want the journey arranged before arrival: a pickup arranged before you travel, a vehicle matched to your party and luggage, and a price agreed in advance. A taxi from the official rank outside arrivals suits you if you prefer to decide on the spot — it's direct and convenient, though queues form when several flights land together and standard sedans can be tight on luggage space; our Rhodes taxi prices page covers indicative fares in detail. The public bus suits budget-conscious travellers with light luggage and daytime arrivals — it's excellent value, but for most southern resorts it means changing in Rhodes Town and a much longer total journey; routes and departure times are on our Rhodes bus timetables page.

Whichever you choose, avoid deciding tired at the kerb. If you know which option fits your trip, arranging it now is one less thing to think about on arrival day.

Arrange Your Rhodes Airport Transfer Before You Travel

If an arranged pickup sounds right for your trip, the next step takes a couple of minutes. Enter your destination, passengers and luggage, and you'll see the available vehicles and the final price for your exact journey — then review the provider's terms and pickup details before you confirm anything.

Want to Explore Rhodes at Your Own Pace?

A transfer solves arrival day — but if your plans involve beach-hopping, mountain villages, or simply coming and going from your resort as you please, hiring a car can be the better fit for the rest of your holiday. It's not about being cheaper than transfers; it's about freedom of movement once you're here.

Car hire makes most sense if you're staying in one of the southern resorts and plan several independent day trips, or if you want to explore the island's quieter west coast and interior villages on your own schedule. Our Rhodes Island Guide's getting-around chapter explains how driving here works in practice.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Rhodes Town from the airport?

About 14 km, which usually means 20–25 minutes by taxi or pre-booked transfer. It's the closest major destination to Rhodes Airport. The airport bus is cheaper but takes 45 minutes or more and arrives at the town bus station rather than your hotel.

How long does a transfer from Rhodes Airport to Lindos take?

Lindos is about 50 km from the airport, so allow roughly an hour to 75 minutes by road. A shared shuttle can take two to three hours because it stops at several resorts first. The bus involves changing in Rhodes Town and typically takes 70–110 minutes in total.

Can a taxi or transfer drop me directly at my Old Town hotel?

Usually not at the door. Vehicles can't freely access most of the medieval Old Town, so drivers drop you at the nearest gate — such as D'Amboise or the Marine Gate — and you walk the last few minutes over cobbles. A pre-booked transfer driver who knows the area will choose the closest practical gate for your specific hotel, and some hotels offer luggage assistance if you ask in advance.

Is the bus a realistic option for the southern resorts?

It's the cheapest option but the least convenient for the south. For Lindos, Pefkos, Lardos, Kiotari or Gennadi you'll typically change buses in Rhodes Town, and the total journey can run from 70 minutes to nearly three hours depending on connections — with luggage, after a flight. It suits backpackers and daytime arrivals travelling light.

Should I book my airport transfer before I travel?

It's not essential, but it removes the main arrival-day uncertainties: you know the vehicle, the luggage capacity, the pickup arrangement and the final price in advance. It's most worthwhile for families, groups, late-evening arrivals, and anyone heading to the longer southern resorts such as Lindos, Kiotari or Gennadi.

Are shared shuttle transfers a good way to save money?

They can be, but know the trade-off: shuttles stop at multiple hotels, and for southern resorts like Pefkos, Kiotari or Gennadi that can stretch the journey to two or three hours. For closer resorts such as Kallithea or Faliraki the extra time is much smaller.

How much is a taxi from Rhodes Airport to my resort?

Indicative fares from our route guides: around €25–35 to Rhodes Town or the Old Town, €30–45 to Kallithea, €45–60 to Kolymbia, €75–95 to Lindos, €85–105 to Pefkos, €90–110 to Lardos, €85–115 to Kiotari and €90–120 to Gennadi, depending on time and luggage. Treat these as approximate — our taxi prices page goes deeper, and a pre-booked transfer gives you a fixed price agreed in advance.
