Lindos Beach

Lindos Beach is the main beach of Lindos village, and it’s one of the most famous and beautiful sights in Rhodes. It’s a long, curving bay of golden sand set directly below the whitewashed village and the ancient Acropolis towering above. This is the classic Rhodes postcard view, and it’s every bit as impressive in person.

This isn't a hidden gem; it's a bustling, vibrant beach that’s the heart of Lindos in the summer. I’d come here if you want a quintessential Greek island beach day with everything you need at your fingertips: sunbeds, tavernas, shallow sandy water and an absolutely epic backdrop. It’s the perfect spot to combine sunbathing with the magic of visiting Lindos village itself.

It's a lively, cosmopolitan beach with full facilities, shallow sandy water, and a vibrant atmosphere. What is Lindos Beach really like?

Imagine a wide crescent of sand, a turquoise bay sheltered from the open sea, and the magnificent Lindos Acropolis watching over you. That’s Lindos Beach. It’s a lively, organised beach with rows of colourful umbrellas, the buzz of boat trips coming and going, and families playing at the water's edge. The atmosphere is cosmopolitan and friendly; it’s a place people come to soak up the sun and the iconic scenery.

For me, the best thing about Lindos Beach is that incredible view. You’re swimming and relaxing in a place that feels historic. It connects you to the village in a way that other beaches don't. That’s why I think it’s a must-do, at least once, for anyone visiting Rhodes.

The sand and swimming

The beach is mostly fine, soft sand, which is perfect for laying down a towel and great for kids. As you get to the water, you might find some smooth pebbles mixed in, but it’s a comfortable beach underfoot. The sea is usually calm and clear here because it's in a protected bay, and the water stays shallow for a good way out, which is reassuring for families and less confident swimmers.

If you enjoy snorkelling, there are some interesting rocky areas and small caves to explore around the edges of the bay, especially over towards the neighbouring Pallas Beach.

Pallas Beach: the little sister next door

In the same bay, right next to the main beach, is Pallas Beach. It’s smaller and centred around a jetty where many of the glass-bottom boat tours and day trips depart. You can walk between the two in a minute or two. Pallas has its own set of sunbeds and tavernas and offers a slightly different perspective of the Acropolis. It’s always worth a look if you’re trying to find a spot on a busy day.

Who is Lindos Beach for?

Lindos Beach is a crowd-pleaser and has wide appeal, but it’s not for everyone. It’s important to know what you’re getting.

**I would definitely recommend it for:**

• Families with children who want a sandy beach with shallow water and full facilities.

• First-time visitors to Rhodes who want to experience the island’s most iconic view.

• Anyone who enjoys a lively, organised beach with a great atmosphere and plenty of people-watching.

• Travellers who want to combine a beach day with exploring the historic village of Lindos.

**I probably wouldn’t choose it if:**

• You’re looking for peace, quiet, and solitude. This is not the place for that.

• You want a wild, natural beach with no sunbeds or buildings.

• You dislike crowds. In July and August, it gets very busy.

• You're on a tight budget. Sunbed rentals and food here can be more expensive than at less famous beaches.

Getting to Lindos and the beach

Getting to Lindos is straightforward, but reaching the sand involves a final walk from the village or car parks. The main village of Lindos is largely pedestrianised, so you can't just drive up to the shore.

By Car

Driving is the most flexible option. As you approach Lindos, there are several large car parks on the main road above the village. Parking is well-organised and typically costs around €7 for the whole day. From there, you'll need to walk down through the village streets to get to the beach, which takes about 10-15 minutes. By Bus

Public buses run frequently to Lindos from Rhodes Town’s main bus station. It's a reliable and affordable way to get there. The bus stop is on the main road at the top of the village, so you'll have the same walk down to the beach as those who arrive by car. Just be sure to check the time of the last bus back so you don't get stranded. For timetables and planning, see the Rhodes bus guide.

By Boat

A very popular way to arrive is by boat. Many full-day island tours from Rhodes Town include a stop for swimming at Lindos Beach. This is a fantastic, hassle-free way to see the bay from the water, though you'll be on a fixed schedule.

Facilities, Food and Drink

Lindos is a fully serviced beach where you can comfortably spend the entire day without needing to leave.

Sunbeds and Umbrellas

The beach is covered with sunbeds and umbrellas available to rent for the day. In high season, especially from mid-morning onwards, it can be tricky to find a free pair in the front rows, so arriving earlier is a good idea if you want the best spot.

Food, Drink and Tavernas

You won't go hungry or thirsty. There are several tavernas and beach cafés right on the sand, serving everything from coffee and cocktails to fresh salads and grilled fish. It’s a real treat to have lunch with your feet in the sand while looking up at the Acropolis.

For more choice, a short walk up into the village opens up dozens more options, from quick gyros spots to high-end restaurants. A wander through the maze-like streets to find a rooftop taverna for lunch or dinner is a classic Lindos experience.

Accessibility

Lindos Beach has been made more accessible in recent years. A permanent ramp and a special guidance system for visually impaired visitors have been installed, helping people get from the pathway to the sea. This makes it one of the better-equipped beaches on the island for visitors with mobility needs.

Boat Trips and Activities

For me, getting out on the water is one of the best things to do around Lindos. This isn't the beach for high-octane watersports like jet skis or parasailing; the vibe is much more about exploring the coastline, the caves and the bays beyond the beach. If you already know you want to get on the water, I'd look at the available trips before your beach day so you can choose the type of experience that suits you.

Licence-free boat: freedom on your own time

You can rent a small motorboat without needing a special licence and explore the coastline at your own pace—find quiet little coves for a swim and get those picture-perfect shots of the village and Acropolis from the sea. If you like the idea of having your own boat for a few hours, see the licence-free boat rental to Lindos and nearby bays.

Lindos boat trips: someone else drives

If you'd rather relax than operate a boat, an organised sailing trip around Lindos is the easy choice, with swim stops and food and drinks on board. See the sailing tours around Lindos.

Private boat or a longer day at sea

For more time on the water and a more personal experience, there's a full-day yacht tour around Lindos, or a private skippered trip to see Lindos from the sea. You can also browse all boat trips on the Looneytravels Marketplace.

My take on a day at Lindos Beach

Personally, I think the best way to enjoy Lindos is to embrace what it is: a beautiful, popular, and historic destination. I'd get there reasonably early, before 10 am, to secure a good spot on the sand. Spend the morning swimming, relaxing, and maybe renting a small boat to see the bay from the water.

When the midday sun gets intense and the beach is at its busiest, that’s the perfect time to leave your things and wander up into the cool, shaded alleys of the village. Find a rooftop taverna for a long, lazy lunch, do some souvenir shopping, and then maybe tackle the walk up to the Acropolis itself.

You can then head back down to the beach for a final swim in the late afternoon as the crowds start to thin. It turns a simple beach day into a full, unforgettable Rhodes experience. Frequently asked questions

Is Lindos Beach sandy?

Yes, it’s a proper sandy beach with just a few pebbles mixed in at the water's edge. The water is shallow to start, making it popular with families.

Is Lindos Beach busy?

Yes, it’s one of the most popular and vibrant beaches in Rhodes. I’d come here for the atmosphere and the stunning views of the Acropolis, not for a quiet or secluded day.

Can you do watersports at Lindos Beach?

Not the noisy kind like jet skis. The activities here are more relaxed: you can rent a small licence-free motorboat to explore the coast or join a sailing or boat trip around Lindos—see the options in the boat section above.

How do you get to Lindos Beach?

You can drive and park for a daily fee, or take a bus from Rhodes Town. From the village or car park, it’s a walk down to the shore. Many people arrive by boat as part of an island tour.

Is Lindos Beach good for children?

Its sandy shore and shallow entry make it a good option for families. However, it gets deep further out and can be very busy, so you'll want to keep a close eye on little ones.

Are there sunbeds and umbrellas at Lindos Beach?

Yes, the beach is well-organised with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. You'll also find tavernas and cafés right on the sand.

Is Lindos Beach the same as Pallas Beach?

No, but they are right next to each other in the same beautiful bay. Pallas is the smaller of the two, and you can easily walk between them in a couple of minutes.

Is Lindos Beach the same as St Paul's Bay?

No, they are completely separate. St Paul’s Bay is on the other side of the Acropolis and has a very different feel. It’s well worth a visit, but it's a separate trip.
