Where to Stay in Rhodes With Kids

Where to Stay in Rhodes With Kids

Travelling to Rhodes with children is one of the best family decisions you can make — but only if you choose the right base. I'm a Rhodes local, I've worked in hospitality here and visited dozens of hotels, and I know which areas actually work with children and which ones quietly create problems.

This guide helps you choose the right family area, understand what changes with babies, toddlers and teens, decide between resorts and apartments, and avoid places that look nice but feel exhausting. Each area comes with family hotels that open on Booking.com for live prices — if you book through them I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

For all areas on the island, start at the Where to Stay in Rhodes hub.

Chapter 1 of 9

What makes an area family-friendly on Rhodes?

Rhodes is a big island. Some areas are perfect for strollers, sandy beaches and stress-free days; others look beautiful online but turn into long walks in the heat, awkward transfers or restless evenings with tired kids. When you travel with children, ease matters more than looks.

The best family areas share a few traits: sandy or gently sloping beaches, short walking distances, safe and calm streets, easy access to food and shops, resorts with kids' clubs and slides, pharmacies nearby and simple transport options.

  • ❌ Long uphill walks and rocky beaches for toddlers
  • ❌ Spread-out resorts and inland villages without shops
  • ❌ Lindos village with a stroller
  • ❌ Underestimating heat and distance

Faliraki — best for families who want fun and facilities

Faliraki is the number-one family base on Rhodes. It has one of the longest sandy beaches on the island, shallow water for kids, the main Rhodes Waterpark, big all-inclusive resorts, frequent buses, supermarkets, cafés, playgrounds and walkable resort streets.

It suits families with teenagers, first-time visitors and parents who want everything easy — and it works brilliantly without a car. Read the Faliraki area guide and the Faliraki Beach guide.

Chapter 3 of 9

Kolymbia — best for calm, nature and balanced family holidays

Kolymbia is quieter than Faliraki and feels greener and more relaxed: pine forests and open spaces, wide peaceful beaches, excellent family resorts and a central location with easy access to Rhodes Town and Lindos.

It's ideal for families who dislike crowds, children who enjoy space and nature, and parents who want calm evenings. Kolymbia works beautifully for babies and toddlers because everything is close and calm. Read the Kolymbia area guide.

Chapter 4 of 9

Kiotari — best for all-inclusive resort families

Kiotari is made for resort holidays: modern beachfront resorts, kids' clubs and entertainment, long quiet beaches, huge pools and family suites. It suits families who want everything on-site, large families and no-planning holidays.

The only downside: it's remote. You don't come here to explore daily — you come to relax. Pre-book an airport transfer for the long drive south. Read the Kiotari area guide.

Chapter 5 of 9

Pefkos and Lardos — best for relaxed village family stays

Pefkos is softer, gentler and more Greek-village in feel: gentle sandy beaches, walkable streets, family studios and apartments, tavernas close to the sea and calm evenings. It suits families with small children and travellers with babies who prefer apartments to big resorts.

Neighbouring Lardos has a long beach and family hotels a short hop from Lindos. Read the Pefkos and Lardos area guides and the Pefkos beach guide.

Near Rhodes Town: family resorts in Ixia

If you want a family resort but also want Rhodes Old Town within a short ride, the Ixia beachfront has large family resorts near town. The west coast is windier and the beaches pebblier, so it suits families who value sightseeing and short transfers over the calmest swimming. Read the Ixia area guide.

Chapter 7 of 9

Babies, toddlers and teens — what changes?

Children's ages change the right base more than anything else.

  • Babies and toddlers: choose flat areas, stay near the beach and prefer resorts or apartments with kitchens — Kolymbia, Kiotari and Faliraki work best.
  • School-age kids: waterparks, long beaches and activity programmes — Faliraki and Kolymbia are ideal.
  • Teenagers: freedom, walkable streets, beach bars and Wi-Fi — Faliraki is perfect.

Chapter 8 of 9

Resort or apartment for a family holiday?

Choose a resort if you want zero planning, kids' clubs, slides and shows, and meals handled. Choose an apartment if you prefer flexible meals, your kids nap, you want local tavernas, you're staying longer or you enjoy independence. Both work — it depends on your rhythm. For space and a private pool, see villas in Rhodes.

Family days out and the next step

Many families find their favourite memories come from what they do, not just where they stay. Boat days are a highlight if your kids enjoy swimming and snorkelling — see the best boat trips in Rhodes — and gentle sandy beaches like Tsambika make easy family days.
